Treasury Notes issued by the Confederate Government between during the American Civil War have been researched and collected for over 150 years by many thousands of numismatists and enthusiasts. The Confederate Treasury issued well over $1.4 billion of paper money between 1861 and 1865, represented by 70 different designs and ~85 million individual notes of varying denomination. Some later Confederate Treasury records were lost during the extensive looting and burning which followed the capture of Richmond, Virginia, and Columbia, South Carolina, by Federal forces towards the end of the War; however, the Federal Government quickly took steps to ensure that the bulk of the Confederate Government records - including those of the Treasury - were preserved in case they contained information which could be valuable in the prosecution of President Davis and other prominent Confederates .

The Sections above provide an introduction to some key aspects relating to these Treasury notes:

- The categorisation of the seventy recognised notes

- The Engravers and Printers who physically manufactured the notes

- The Treasury clerks who signed the notes on behalf of the Register and the Treasurer

- The Financial Record of the notes as documented by Mr. Thian in his Register of the Confederate Debt

- The Digital Register which has been developed by the Author to encapsulate and extend Thian's work
